What is the Difference between 'Air Source Heat Pumps and Ground Source Heat Pumps: Air Source Heat Pumps extract heat from the outside air. Air is drawn across the evaporator, providing heat required to complete the internal refrigeration cycle. Ground Source Heat Pumps work in a similar way, but instead of using air, they circulate a frost-protected fluid through pipes installed in the ground, either vertically or horizontally. The fluid absorbs naturally occurring heat from the earth and passes through the evaporator to drive the same internal refrigeration cycle.
